The company is a multinational oil and gas corporation based United States of America. The company’s headquarters are located in Irving, Texas. The company is the biggest direct descendant of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company.

Formation

The company was founded on November 30, 1999 and was a result of merger of two companies, Exxon which was previously the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey and Mobil which was the Standard Oil Company of New York previously.

International ranking

It is ranked 9th in the world in terms of revenue generation. It remained on the first six positions in terms of market capitalization from 1996 to 2017. In 2016, the company was on 9th rank in the Forbes Global 2000 list. The company was also ranked second in terms of profit in the Fortune 500 in 2014.
